Dr Glenda Walsh, a Principal Lecturer, is Head of Early Years Education and Doctoral Studies at Stranmillis University College: a college of Queen’s University Belfast. Her teaching and research centre on play and playful pedagogies in early childhood and primary education. Much of her research has a strong applied focus, where she works closely with early years settings, schools, and government bodies across Ireland and beyond, developing and promoting models of best practice in playful learning. One of her most recent contributions is the development of a Playful Learning Continuum, which supports progression in play-based pedagogy from pre-school through to the later years of primary education. She also serves on the Advisory Board for Playful Learning Denmark (DK), funded by the LEGO Foundation. Her books, chapters, presentations and journal articles reflect her commitment to positioning play as a purposeful and powerful pedagogical approach in early years and primary education.
