Emotions Matter (SAC)

It is well documented that emotional intelligence can be a strong predictor of success in relationships, academical achievement, health and quality of life.  Children with higher levels of emotional intelligence are more likely to pay attention and be more engaged in school and they are also shown to have greater ability to regulate their emotions more effectively.

This session aims to provide practitioners with strategies to help the children they work with explore their emotions and learn fun ways to help them self-regulate.

Facilitated by: Roberta Johnson, Play Participation Officer at PlayBoard NI.

Bio: Roberta has 3 decades of experience in the early years and childcare sectors. She has worked directly with children, young people, parents and other professionals in a variety of roles.

Roberta has worked with PlayBoard for the past 5 years in a variety of roles on a peripatetic basis and latterly as a Play Participation Officer.  During this time Roberta has supported School Aged Childcare (SAC) settings to work towards PlayBoard’s Quality Programme and she has also delivered a programme to support children’s positive mental health and wellbeing.  Roberta is currently working within the Bright Start team supporting SAC settings to continue offering quality play experiences.  Roberta is trained by the Safeguarding Board NI to deliver their Modules on Trauma Sensitive Practice.
