After viewing the picture book ‘Granny Makes Me Grumpy’ (see links below), the Museum of Childhood Ireland Músaem Óige na hÉireann invite you to create a portrait of a special person in your life … Granny, Granda, Aunt, Uncle or anyone special to you.  Email your portrait to info@museumofchildhood.ie and your artwork will be displayed on the Museum of Childhood Ireland Músaem Óige na hÉireann’s online gallery.

The picture book ‘Granny Makes Me Grumpy’, written and illustrated by Karolina Olchowska explores the perception of old age through the eyes of a child and how this perspective changes and matures with age.

It’s a picture book that the Museum of Childhood Ireland Músaem Óige na hÉireann feels is for everyone. Karolina felt it was important to make this picture book for herself and others who were cared for by that special someone in their lives, whether it’s their grandparents, uncles or aunts.

The English-Polish picture book ‘Granny Makes Me Grumpy’ teaches us appreciation of the people who raise us. Through the activity connected with Granny Makes Me Grumpy, children will become familiar with bilingual picture books, and they will practice visual literacy and creativity skills. By showing similarities between Polish and Irish cultures, the book supports dialogue between the Polish and Irish communities.
